Opportunities for Nutritionists and Dietitians

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), headquarter in Atlanta, Georgia, investigates the epidemiology of public health problems, including the relationship between diet and health. Dietitians and nutritionists play an important role in the CDC's effort to improve public health through nutrition research and education.

The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) in Hyattsville, Maryland, is responsible for conducting the national health and nutrition examination survey (NHANES). NCHS also employs dietitians and nutritionists to collect and analyze nutritional status data for the United States.

The National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion provides leadership in promoting healthy eating patterns by developing and promoting partnerships with private sector and voluntary groups to improve the American diet and by developing and promoting techniques for dietary surveillance. The Pregnancy Nutrition Surveillance System (PNSS) monitors nutrition-related problems and behavioral risk factors among high-risk pregnant women and the Pediatric Nutrition Surveillance System (PedNSS) monitors major nutrition-related problems among high-risk infants and children.
