FDA Health and Diet Survey - 2004 Supplement

The Health and Diet Survey (HDS) is a periodic telephone survey conducted by FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition to measure and monitor public awareness, knowledge, attitudes, and reported behavior related to food and nutrition. Topics in previous surveys have included food labels, fats, and dietary supplements. Data have been used to meet FDA's information needs on these topics and to evaluate national programs such as the National Cholesterol Education Program.

The HDS - 2004 Supplement, the 9th survey since 1982, was conducted between October 2004 and January 2005, to provide FDA with information about: (1) consumers' knowledge of relationships between dietary fats and the risk of coronary heart disease; and (2) consumers' attitudes toward diet, health, and physical activity, particularly perceptions and practices related to carbohydrates.

A Topline Frequency Report of the full survey, as well as selected and more detailed findings on dietary fats, heart disease relationships, and carbohydrates are online: FDA Health and Diet Survey - 2004 Supplement.
